Williamsburg - Feliks' perspective
Old, old town. I got that feeling as soon as we rolled in. We didn't make it downtown, just to the Merchants Square. All the buildings looked 100+ years old. Merchants square was nice. There were tons of unique shops with a few national brands in the mix. Tons of people walking around but the place was so open it did not feel crowded at all. We stopped by a candy store, Wythe Candy and Gourmet Shop, that would make any kid go bonkers. They had pretty much every type of candy you could think of. I tried for the first time ever, Red Velvet fudge: really good. And we got a caramel apple to go: also really good.
As we had a need for wifi, we stopped by The Cheese Shop which had a wine cellar below that provided Caywood with a glass of wine, and I got a local beer. We sat outside and worked for a little. The square has its own free wifi that made it really easy for us to do our work. While we were working and researching our next stops, Caywood asked a lady sitting behind me for a food recommendation, which took us to the best home style cooking I've had in a long time.
Food For Thought had about a 40 minute wait, first sign that it was going to be good. The menu had a meatloaf dish and pot roast dish that both sounded amazing and right between the two was a little bubble that said "Family Reunion." Two dollars more and you get both, meatloaf and pot roast, on the same plate, at the same time. Decision made. Budget restrictions had us split the dish and the waitress brought our meal on two separate plates. Glad we split it because there was so much food we didn't even finish our half plates. We did eat the leftovers the next day and they were just as good. Thank you strange lady for the recommendation.
On our way out of Williamsburg we stopped at Wallace's Trading Post and got a nice picture with two gentleman dressed in colonial outfits. The store had a huge selection of gifts and nifty things that rival any gift shop I've ever been to.
Parking was easy. Roads were good.

Williamsburg - Caywood's perspective
Williamsburg: a city of historical elegance. We spent most of our time in historic Williamsburg enjoying Merchant's Square. We went into Wythe Candy & Gourmet Shop to get a caramel apple, walked around, then stopped at The Cheese Shop (and their wine cellar) to get a local glass of red wine (me) and a local beer for Feliks. Just sitting outside the cheese shop enjoying our local drinks and watching people in the square was a great time, and very relaxing. Probably the first time we've actually sat down to relax in our first two weeks of traveling! We were working on our website stuff the entire time, mind you, but it was still calm and peaceful.
While at The Cheese Shop, we were recommended Food for Thought by a fellow tourist who had visited Williamsburg on many occasions. We looked at a few other options, but chose to stick with her recommendation and split their Family Reunion: meatloaf, pot roast, grilled zucchini, and redskin mashed potatoes. YUM! We truly had the best experience here. Since we're traveling on a budget, we decided to split our meal. The kitchen went out of their way to separate the meal onto two plates, and even gave us a bit extra of the sides. The waitress was very nice and personable, and the owner Howard even stopped by our table to check on how our meal was going.
I give Williamsburg a thumbs up. The people were nice. The entire downtown has free wifi. You can walk three blocks and get pretty much any kind of food you want, dessert from a different place, shopping for yourself/spouse/child/etc, find a nice glass of wine (local or not), and enjoy some beautiful landscaping.
My advice from our experience:
1. Go to Williamsburg. Just because it's a small city, do not pass this one up. And if you like history, there was TONS of history and tours that we chose not to do since neither of us are history buffs.
2. Even if you only have one meal out in this city, go to Food for Thought. It was the best food, and the best food experience up to this point in our trip. Great service, great food. If you go for dinner, do expect a wait. But it goes by fast and they have free wifi while you wait!
