Charleston - Caywood's perspective
Charleston, South Carolina: a city of brilliance and history. I still can't get over how beautiful the architecture in Charleston was. And so much history! We began our quick stop in Charleston with the Old Exchange & Provost Dungeon, an amazing building downtown that used to be the major trading point for commerce, but for two years during the Revolution was used as a dungeon to hold up to 65 prisoners. We got to actually walk in the dungeon, on the original floors, with the original brick beams, and feel the ambiance of that historic landmark.
Next, we wanted to be sure to take in the look and feel of the city. Through a bike ride around downtown, we got to take some beautiful shots of Rainbow Row, walk up and down historic streets like East Bay and King Street, and ride along the Charleston Harbor at Waterfront Park. Man, the views!
Biggest piece of advice from my experience: Take your bike to Charleston. It's actually amusing that I say that because I was giving Feliks a hard time the ENTIRE visit because I wanted to walk everywhere and he wanted to save time by riding bikes. Although my tush is a bit sore since my new bike is not broken in yet, it was still totally worth it having our bikes to view different parts of the city. That's right, Feliks... I said it!

Charleston - Feliks' perspective
Charleston was cool. We started off downtown and did a tour of The Old Exchange Provost and Dungeon. Good lesson in history and the guide was very knowledgable about the time period and history of the town. I'm not a history buff but I enjoyed listening to the tale of the pirates and how the building was used. We then rode our bikes around for a little and saw the harbor, a park with a pineapple fountain, and the pier. Lots of good sightseeing downtown and the buildings really looked like they were 200 hundred years old. It is a college town so some of them were better looking than others. Meeting Street was full of bars and restaurants and little coffee shops, not a lot of chains which I really liked. We got a couple drinks at a little coffee/bar called the East Bay Meeting House.
We spent the night in the van next to Vendue Inn on a side street and were woken up by the garbage men. Our friend Kim suggested Hominy Grill for breakfast and we thank him for that recommendation. The Charleston Nasty Biscuit was amazing! I don't really do breakfast and I cleaned my plate. After breakfast we checked out the Charleston City Market, which was 4 blocks long. Lots of sweetgrass baskets and clothes. There was a part indoors that had actual stores but most of it was just under a roof. It was cool to walk through but most of the stuff you can find at any city market.
Overall, I liked Charleston. Do the tour, check out the local restaurants, visit King Street if you need to do some shopping, and drive over the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge. Check out Waterfront Park and walk around a few random streets to see some really cool houses. Parking was a little challenging and there were a lot of tourists, so be patient because parts of the city move slow. City Market was nothing special so don't waste your time. Some of the side streets were brick, so make sure everything is secure in your vehicle because the roads might get bumpy.
