Her View

Boulder - Caywood's perspective

Boulder: the city I expected Denver to be. When we planned to go to Denver, I was expecting to see the focus on healthy living, local food, and local musicians that I’ve heard about so much. I didn’t get that from Denver and was disappointed, but luckily Boulder was our next stop. Boulder had the emphasis I was looking for on local food, local art, and living a health-conscious life. We got into boulder at night at met up with Molly, a friend of Feliks’ from high school. After enjoying a drink, it was already late and we were ready to get some sleep.

We woke up and had some delicious breakfast at Lucile’s, a restaurant that had been in Boulder forever and served authentic New Orleans style food in huge portions out of an old house. It was quickly made apparent that we needed to walk our food off before getting in the car again. We took a stroll down Pearl Street to see some of the local shops and restaurants, walked through a nice residential area, then hit up the farmer’s market. This was the most amazing farmer’s market I have ever been to. Rows upon rows upon rows of all locally grown organic fruits and veggies. We stayed a while to walk around the whole place, and left with organic apples, green beans, and a loaf of bread.

I loved Boulder. We didn’t see a lot of homeless people (although a local told us there are sometimes quite a few), it’s easy to stay away from the college crowd, the city has some great local food places, and it was easy to walk/bike around. Boulder has a lot of what I’m looking for in a place to move. It’s a bit smaller than I think that I want, but it has most of the focus points that are important to me. Boulder is not a big tourist attraction, which I like. Obviously the area attracts lots of skiers in the winter, but year-round there aren’t lots of tourists there, which is very appealing to me.

His View

Boulder - Feliks' perspective

I’ve been to Boulder a couple times before to visit an old friend, so I was familiar with the city. Minus the natural amenities offered by Boulder, there’s not much available for tourists. I did get to see an old friend from high school, who had only been there for a few months and was already in love with the city. Even though Boulder is a college town, it is pretty easy to drive a couple blocks and get away from that atmosphere. I love Pearl Street, and the fact that there’s only a handful of national chains.

There are lots of great places to eat and unique things to try. We even got lucky with the Farmer’s Market - one of the biggest and best farmer’s market I’ve ever been to. That’s probably an unfair comparison to other markets, because there was also a craft fair going on while we were there. We were also told that it was unusually big that day. I thought it was pretty cool that there were numerous organic farms offering almost every kind of veggie at a decent price. I would say almost everything at this farmer’s market was locally grown and organic, just like every farmer’s market should be.

Overall, I still love Boulder. It has that small town with big amenities feeling that I love. Parking was easy, and the roads were pretty good.
