Boston - Caywood's perspective
Boston: a city of brilliant architecture. We didn't see too much of Boston. I liked what we did see in regards to the downtown area, but couldn't get over the drivers! If you think Philly has aggressive drivers (which I did), they're nothing compared to Boston. And the streets are easily the most confusing I've ever experienced. So glad I was a passenger rather than a driver. The architecture in this town was breathtaking. Everywhere you look, there are old buildings with such unique characteristics. Lots of beautiful churches, the Boston Public Library, various monuments, and so much more.
Our first stop was to snap a few pictures outside of Fenway Park. Then it was the Boston Public Library. GORGEOUS. Words cannot even come close to describing the beauty and elegance of this place. It was like a library and an art museum in one - except better than any other library or art museum. Each wall had a unique mural, there were certain small rooms dedicated to various types of art, two large statues of lions. Everything was so old. And I say that in the best way possible.
Next we took a stroll outside to the Boston Public Garden. I loved this area. Complete with a pond, a small boat tour, geese, swans, and lots of dogs, I could see myself going here on a daily basis over lunch. There were so many people there and it was a great mix of tourists and locals. Our next stop was to grab some lunch on the Boston Harbor of Charles River. We got lucky and there was actually a festival of sorts going on near the harbor. We walked through all of the vendors in search for the perfect Lobster Roll for Feliks to eat. We found one with a lobster roll for $12; it looked fresh, and that was the winner. Feliks says it was good... I just stayed away. For the rest of the day.
Our time in Boston was very limited. There were a lot of things we wanted to see and didn't get it, but we had a six hour drive to our next destination and wanted to beat rush hour traffic. Harvard, Somerville, Freedom Trail, etc... we will be back for you.
My favorite part of Boston was honestly the people we stayed the night with, Sharon and David. A family that impacted Feliks' life more than almost everyone else. When Feliks and his family moved to America when he was 9, Sharon, David, and their two sons helped Feliks and his family adapt to US culture and society. Feliks hadn't seen these people in twenty years, and was able to reconnect with them - it's amazing what the internet can do! The home-cooked meals and a real bed were great, but the best part of this visit (for me, at least) was getting to see Feliks and this family interact. Twenty years later but it seemed like no time had passed. How awesome to meet people who have had such a major impact on the man you're going to marry.
My advice from our experience:
1. Don't drive around in Boston.
2. Be careful where you walk in Boston. The aggressive local drivers do not like pedestrian tourists.
3. Plan more than one day in the city.

Boston - Feliks' perspective
I had been to Boston before one time when I was 9, and while my memory from 21 years ago is probably not the most accurate, I still remembered some of the places we visited. We pulled into Boston about 8pm, and as we drove through the suburbs it was surprisingly busy on some of the streets even though it was a Wednesday night. The first thing I noticed that brought the memory back was the unique architecture of the houses and office buildings.
Twenty one summers ago I made a trip to Boston to visit our host family that helped my family get accustomed to the American way. Sharon and David were gracious enough to offer us a room for the night. It was a blast to reminisce about my first year in America and see some of the pictures they saved from 1992. After a delicious home-cooked Thanksgiving dinner, we hit the sack to prepare for Boston.
We started off with a visit to Fenway Park, which was a first for me. I'm not a huge baseball fan, and even though there was no game, I can only imagine the atmosphere around this area on game day. By far one of the most supportive field I have ever seen. Everywhere you looked, there were Boston signs, Boston memorability, and Boston fans. Our next stop took us to the Boston Public Library. The library itself was an amazing piece of architecture that required a number of pictures to capture the entire structure. The inside was even more magnificent than the outside. And there were a few jaw-dropping moments. We didn't do a full tour, but we did walk around quite a bit. Caywood was especially intrigued with the rare books section, which was well worth the walk to the back of the library. There was also an interesting room with marionette puppets. I don't quite remember where this room was, but I highly recommend checking it out. I agree with Caywood - it was like a free art museum in some of the rooms.
On our way out as we left through the doors, I was blown away at the sight of Trinity Church. It looked like something out of Lord of the Rings. We then took a short trip to Public Garden, and enjoyed a nice stroll around the lake. I was actually really surprised at the amount of people that were at the park. Everyone from mothers to grandmothers to office workers enjoying their lunch. There was even a boat ride around the lake powered by a peddling worker.
After navigating through the hectic grid of one ways and around the invincible pedestrians, we made our way over to the Boston Harbor. Our goal was to get me a lobster roll and Caywood some local food. There was a festival in its set-up stage and we were able to score a lobster roll from a local vendor. Delicious. Caywood did not find anything appetizing and settled for a sandwich in the van. I felt bad.
Overall, I love Boston. For such a huge city it is a very clean city. I remember the subway system, and getting from place to place was easy without a car. Everyone we talked to was very nice, and I love the Boston accent. Even though we got lucky with most of the day, I would rank parking as difficult. Most of the meters were two hour limits. Pay attention to the one way signs, and plan out your route before you start driving. Slightly more hectic than Philly.
